Three ways onto the reformer

From November, the reformer timetable has three classes, each with a clear name and a clear purpose: Beginner Reformer, Signature and Reformer Strength.

We made the change because of you. Over the past year we've watched who books what, read your messages, and asked on Instagram what you'd like more of. Two things kept coming up. People new to reformer weren't always sure which class was meant for them, and many of you wanted to work harder. So we've made the first step easier to find, and given strength its own room.

Why start in November

January is when everyone decides to begin. The studios fill up, the resolutions come out, and a lot of good intentions are gone by February. We'd gently suggest starting before all that.

The weeks ahead are full in a different way: late nights, early starts, travel, more food and drink than usual, and less time that's really yours. A couple of classes a week gives you something steady to come back to, a bit of strength and balance that carries you through the festive season rather than leaving you to start from scratch in the new year.

And if you begin now, you'll arrive in January already knowing your way around the reformer, with a routine that's yours and faces in the room you recognise.

Beginner Reformer

Your first step onto the reformer.

The reformer can look like a lot the first time you see one: the carriage, the springs, the straps. Beginner Reformer is a slower, more guided class that takes the time to show you how it all works. You'll learn how to set up, how the springs change each exercise, and the handful of movements everything else is built on.

It's for anyone new to reformer Pilates, and for anyone coming back after a break who'd like to ease in. If you're starting with our four-class intro offer, this is where we'd suggest you begin.

Signature

Stronger, steadier, freer.

Signature is the heart of Reset reformer, and the class our community keeps coming back to. It replaces what used to be called All Levels and Essentials, so if you've been coming for a while, this is the class you already know.

It's a low-impact, full-body practice that builds strength, stability and ease of movement. The springs let you make each exercise lighter or deeper depending on how you feel that day, which is why a first-timer and a five-year regular can share the same room and both get what they came for. Our teachers each bring their own training and voice, so no two classes are quite the same.

All levels, and beginners are always welcome. Your teacher will take you through the set-up and offer options throughout.

Reformer Strength

Heavier, stronger, progressive.

Reformer Strength is exactly what it sounds like. Heavier springs, hand weights and shorter breaks, with sequences that build on each other from week to week. It's deliberate, creative work that asks a lot of your strength and control, and it's harder than it looks.

You don't need to be advanced to come. You just need to know your way around the reformer, so it's open to anyone who has taken at least two Signature classes or all-levels classes elsewhere. If you've been wanting to feel properly strong, or you lift elsewhere and want something that complements it, this is the class for you.

Finding your class

Think of the three as a path rather than a ladder. Start with Beginner Reformer if the reformer is new to you. Move into Signature when you feel at home on the carriage. Add Reformer Strength when you want to push, and keep Signature in your week for everything else it gives you.

There's no test and no rush. Plenty of people will stay in Signature and love it, and that's exactly as it should be. If you're unsure where to begin, reply to any of our emails or ask at the front desk and we'll point you the right way.

You'll find all three on the timetable now. We'll see you on the reformer.
